Beezel

Beezel

Movie Info:

Beezel is a terrifying dark comedy- horror movie that incorporates a very novel twist to the so-called nasty child film genre. It is directed by Taika Waititi, it recounts the story of a little troublemaker kid named Beezel (still an unknown actor) who looks sweet and innocent but is actually a demon possessed child without his family’s knowledge. In the midst of this growing chaos, Beezel’s adoptive parents, Lily (Kristen Wiig) and Jack (Ryan Reynolds) are caught in a funny situation as everyone in the neighborhood looks perfect on the outside but they coexist with a very terrifying child. Funny in a non-perv way, it is impossible to ignore disharmony when watching it. Cast: Kristen Wiig as Lily Ryan Reynolds as Jack Unknown child actor as Beezel Taika Waititi as the voice of the demon within Beezel Positive Aspects: Comedy and Horror Blend: In a refreshing approach to the typical horror that has been reiterated over and over again in the film, the Waititi’s comedic streak overcomes the odds and makes the film interesting and off-beat with comical instances that will invoke laughter. Strong Cast: Since the majority of Wiig and Reynolds redeeming qualities are their sense of humor, their roles in this film make the otherwise serious topics mildly amusing and entertaining. Unique Premise: When I say this day that a child is possessed but it is dealt with humor and not fear is something that is both original and enjoyable. Negative Aspects: Tonal Imbalance: There are occasions when the moment of switching gears from comedy to the horror aspect is a bit awkward and some individual audience members may not be sure if they are watching a serious film or a satirical one. Limited Scares: Certainly, keeping in mind the genre of the film, this does not provide for too much for the audiences in pure terror and this is a letdown for those who expected a more conventional horror film.
