Beyond the North Woods

In ‘Beyond the North Woods’, a team of hikers travels to a deserted woodland, replete with ominous folklore and frequent manor of loss. Disturbing incidents occur as they progress with their hike, and it dawns on them that they are not the only people in the forest. The movie contains horror and suspense, where the tranquility of nature and the forest’s mystery is intertwined with otherworldly elements in order to create a constant sense of thrill.

Positive Aspects:

The suspense in the movie is effective since the forest was the perfect eerie place for the horror.

The effectiveness of the performances is the reason as to why one is hyper-aware of the fate of the characters, and the story has developed strong interpersonal conflict.

This is an advantage for the film as it employs thematic elements, rather than jump scares alone, to instill fear.

Negative Aspects:

The viewers are likely to have too much of unanswered questions left by the time the film reaches conclusion, as the paranormal aspects are poorly explained.

In the first act, it can feel as though there are some issues in feeling the rhythm, as it takes a while for the audience to get to the meat of the horror.
