Look Back

Perhaps the most puzzling aspect of work of Gary Ross is that most of them seem so vivid and realistic yet there is an unspeakable quality that makes them not so. Like Look back feature in Tell me your secrets, center around many themes, including memory, trauma, violence, and identity. It is centered around a detective who receives letters urging him to re inbvestigate a case he has worked on long ago. This story tells the viewers how memories are not as true as they may seem owing to the phone interviews with the victims.

Cast:

Hugh Jackman as the lead detective

Jessica Chastain as one of the reporters that pursues the case more closely than other people and tries to investigate on it.

Rami Malek as a shady informant with an unknown agenda

Strengths:

The mystery aspect is quite amazing as it makes the viewers question a lot related to memories and how true is the reality.

The veteran actors in their respective roles executed their characters very well, especially Jessica Chastain and Hugh Jackman.

The thriller aspect of the film is accompanied by self-reflection in quite an astute manner.

Weaknesses:

The narrative aspect is quite complicated as it has a lot of twists and turns which in fact is its charm and in totality lot shaky for some audiences.

The rhythm may seem off for saturation scenes where there is a gaze on the detective parts as the tranquillity becomes uncomfortable.
