🎥 Cinematography & Style
François Ozon employs minimal and evocative imagery to create an atmosphere of quiet tension:
Mirrors, reflections, open doors, and the rippling surface of the pool hold the camera’s attention.
Emotion is captured in natural lighting coupled with long silences, which slowly permit currents of feeling to rise.
While warm French countryside is visually inviting, it contrasts starkly with the characters’ cold emotional distance toward one another.
Because of this restraint, the film feels almost as if it were a novel; you can hear its pages turning quietly until you reach the shocking final chapter.
