The Echo

The Echo

Movie Info:

The Echo starts in a remote mining town, where several locals search for sources of strange sounds coming from the disused mine. These sounds, or vivid echoes, start bending space and time, revealing sinister images of an alternate reality. The rulers are slowly getting driven insane by the sounds and need to crush the being that is behind all of this before the entity annihilates their town.

Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy Timothée Chalamet Hugh Grant

Positive Faces: A brief summary of the Torch illustrates the film’s notable features. The plot is based on the so-called “Echo Principle”. I’ve seen that best described as beginning with a voice and ending with as an atmosphere that gets under one’s skin. Characters have acted perfectly, especially Anya Taylor-Joy, who always fits psychologically demanding movie roles. The imagery in the feature film is captivating and accompanied by terrible sound design such that it fills one with great anxiety.

Negative Faces: The storyline doesn’t seem very concrete and feels incoherent in areas, notably the final scenes, where it is more abstract and surreal. I can see some horror enthusiasts, though, may not appreciate the rhythm of this tale and find it too subdued.
