The Exorcism of Saint Patrick

The Exorcism of Saint Patrick

Movie Info:

The Exorcism of Saint Patrick, as its title suggests, focuses on exorcism, possession and, woe, the eponymous figure of Saint Patrick himself. The plot revolves around a priest in present-day time who looks up to St. Patrick, as evil forces that had been dormant in the ancient times, recently surfaced to Ireland. Meanwhile, as this priest meets the evil creature, he begins to notice alarming past-events, which results in a tug-of-war between evil and faith.

Cast:

Cillian Murphy as Father Declan

Ruth Negga as Dr. Aisling O’Connor

Liam Cunningham as Bishop Keane

Positive Aspects:

Funny Concept: The movie’s mix of an ancient story and modern-day horror is interesting and gives another direction to a religious based horror.

Strong Performances: Of course, it’s Cillian Murphy who plays the role of a priest looking for his own faith and facing the otherworldly that steals the spotlight. Also, Ruth Negga gives off her emotionally charged role in a way that only adds the substance.

Negative Aspects:

Boring: The pacing of the movie is very sluggish at times and may not appeal to the ears of people who are looking for something more fast-paced as there are only sequences with low tension build ups.

Religisite: The movie explores the religious themes in a heavy-handed manner. It may not be well-received by certain audiences.
